Rejection gives a new direction

Rejection is not a bad event of your life, it opens new avenues and give freedom to try alternate things. Today I will share an incident of rejection which gave a great physicist and scientist to this world – Dr C V Raman (Dr Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman) .

CVR

Dr Raman was not physically so strong but was very intelligent. Since childhood he always preferred to read books and work on his studies. Due to his extraordinary intelligence he was forced to take up the Indian Civil Services Examination (ICS) by his teachers, they were sure that Raman would be able to clear it. But Dr Raman was declared unfit to travel abroad and his application was finally rejected. He was declared unfit by the Civil Surgeon of Madras.  Post this rejection, he joined the Presidency College, Madras in MA Physics section. This was an important event which directed him to his core skill. In very short time this young prodigy started showing the sign of great physicist & scientist. He soon became the first scholar from that college to get a research paper published in the Philosophical Magazine( a British Journal).

Later Dr Raman said that he would be always grateful to the surgeon who rejected him for ICS examination and gave freedom to choose Physics and Research.  He was awarded Nobel Prize in Physics “for his work on the scattering of light and for the discovery of the Raman effect” in  1930 . He was the first Indian to receive any Nobel Prize in the field of Science.

There are many such examples of successful people who scaled great heights due to rejection in their life. So don’t get demotivated or distressed due to rejections in your life.

‘There’s nothing like rejection to make you do an inventory of yourself.’ – James L Burke
‘A rejection is nothing more than a necessary step in the pursuit of success.’ – Bo Bennett
