Because India’s constitution came into effect on Republic Day….

After a long  era of sacrifices, hunger strikes, non-cooperative movement and a unique style of fight –  without blood,  gave us the freedom which was the dream of every Indian. India’s constitution came into effect on Republic Day, 26 January 1950 and India became a totally republican unit – country in which supreme power is held by the people and their elected representatives, and which has an elected or nominated president.
